This should only be used as a temporary workaround
And has been tested to work on a Acer Aspire 5601AWLMi laptop with a 80GB IDE hard drive, but this work around may not work for everyone.
Create file:
sudo nano /etc/rc0.d/S00hdd-shutdown-workaround
which includes this two lines:
#!/bin/sh
echo 1 > /sys/class/scsi_disk/0\:0\:0\:0/stop_on_shutdown
Then make it executable:
sudo chmod +x /etc/rc0.d/S00hdd-shutdown-workaround
On the next shutdown it should park the hdd heads correctly.
Note:
If you have more than one directory at “/sys/class/scsi_disk/“, add another line for each of them in the S00hdd-shutdown-workaround file.
i have this problem with gusty final with kernel 2.6.22-14 geetic
i use the solution above , the bug still present …. help ……
this bug is killing me by now…..
thx in advance…..
I am not sure if the above fix works with 2.6.22-14 kernel as my laptop is still running Ubuntu 7.04 and the fix is works fine.
Well I got my laptop back on Friday just gone from the repairer and have been able to install Ubuntu gutsy and test the 2.6.22-14-generic kernel, and I have not have to apply the above work around.
I visit a lot of sites and blogs and normally they fail to deliver, but this one is different. It’s the real deal! Thank you, I am very grateful to you and it has helped me, particularly the post – Quails home away from the nest » Bad hard drive noise on shutdown (HDD Park). Mary Jane
